Why is Jaffarian sponsoring a blood drive?

Peavy%20(2)_v2_jpgWe are part of the community and we like to help out in any way we can to give back to our community, so we’ve decided to partner with the American Red Cross to sponsor a blood drive. In the summer, the need for blood is as high as the rest of the year, but with vacations and other factors, the supply is usually low. Every two seconds someone in the U.S. needs blood.

To entice you to come our showroom and donate blood on Friday, June 13 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., there will be a special guest appearance by Boston Pitcher Jake Peavy with autographed photos for donors.

In an era where sadly and all too often athletes make headlines for all the wrong reasons, Jake Peavy is a special athlete for all the right reasons. In 2013, Peavy joined the Boston Red Sox and became a member of the 2013 World Series champions. Much more than a three-time all-star and 2007 National League Cy Young Award Winner, Peavy is recognized as the one of the best pitchers in baseball.

In 2012, Jake created the “Jake Peavy Foundation” to support cancer research and help those in need. The Foundation, in part, honors the memories of Jake’s late grandmother and his bullpen coach when he was a member of the San Diego Padres.  Jake has been honored for his care and compassion of US Veterans who are recovering from injuries as an active member of Major League Baseball’s Strikeouts for Troops Program. He truly is a role model and as one of the “good guys” we’re happy to have him on our team. He drives a Toyota 4-Runner, courtesy of Jaffarian Toyota Scion.

give bloodSo if you can stop by on June 13th and donate blood—meet Jake and become eligible to enter raffles, including two winners of a Super Wash (valued at $39.95) at the Jaffarian Auto Spa, a$200 Visa Gift card courtesy of Suburban Propane and a pair of Six Flags tickets.

You never know when a friend, family member, or co-worker, or even you, will need blood.  Blood must be available before it’s needed. Donated blood is used to help accident victims, trauma patients, transplant recipients, and those receiving treatment for life-threatening illnesses.  It is the blood on the shelves today that saves lives tomorrow. Donating blood is a community responsibility and we must work together to make sure blood is available whenever a patient in our community needs it.

Eligible donors are encouraged to make an appointment to roll up a sleeve and give patients a chance for hope this summer and throughout the year. To make an appointment to donate blood at this event, simply call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or visit redcrossblood.org, however, appointments are not required, but encouraged.

I hope you’ll all join me to help save lives by rolling up your sleeve and donating blood on June 13th.
